Pedalling Through Reflection

In October I spent three incredible weeks of hiking and cycling through Andalucia, Spain.
As I settled back into my routine, a colleague asked, “What do you think about as you cycle up those long hills, the ones where it’s probably faster to walk than to ride?”
For me, those climbs feel meditative. There’s a rhythm that quiets the noise and opens space to reflect. I think about how I want to live more deliberately and continue working with leaders who are authentic, curious, and committed to growth.
Then my colleague asked, “What about the downhills?” That’s where you decide how much risk you’re willing to take. The reward is different for everyone. Some play it safer and simply make it to the bottom, while others lean in, trust their skills, and test the edge of their comfort zone.
What I found interesting is that, as the week went on, everyone got a little faster on the downhills. For me, it confirmed that growth happens when we expand our comfort zone, one descent at a time.
In my book, Where The Trails Lead, I write about adventure and risk, those moments when the trail isn’t clearly marked. Cycling through Andalucia was another reminder that growth often happens on uncertain paths, not predictable ones.
Now, back home and recharged, I’m ready for a full season of speaking, consulting, and leadership workshops ahead.
Here’s to not always knowing what’s next and finding meaning in the journey itself.
